I was trying to get into the Mayo Neuro clinic after my neurologist sent a detailed referral for me. They told me to send all my records along with Imaging, and I did. They told me it would take seven days to look over my records. I had to Call multiple times during that six weeks asking for an update. After SIX WEEKS I was told they did not accept me as a patient because they didn’t think they could do anything differently. They couldn’t even understand why my neurologist sent me. He sent a detailed letter and I was very detailed in the information I gave them. Keep in mind I am an ICU nurse of 20 years here. Nobody there cares. I was highly disappointed. Since when can you turn down patients? Very disappointing for a Mayo Clinic!!!!

I have epilepsy and I was referred to Mayo Clinic after seeing nemours for 2 years. The neurology department is excellent and the doctors are caring and helpful. I have Dr. Mirsatarri and he is very knowledgeable about my condition and understands what is going on. I definitely recommend Mayo Clinic for neurology.

I was blown away. I feel like I finally have hope for my Trigeminal Neuralgia. This place is a well oiled machine. Dr Orlova was great and spent 75 minutes with me on my first visit!

I don't recommend this department. There is a lack of communication issue that doesn't help patients progress with their care plan.
I have visited Dr. Fox at mayo clinic after having a severe pain in my lower back. He recommended me to get injections to try if the pain will be gone after these. My insurance rejected the injections and here I go with two months of suffering with communication with him and his staff to get the approval and reschedule these appointments. I kept calling his team and send him msgs over the portal and no response. They kept telling me we will give you a call when we will have update. No one ever called me for an updates. I kept calling everyday to check on statues. Also, schedulers missed up these appointment multiple times. It was such a frustrating experience with him and his staff. I don't recommend anyone to go through these type of experiences and having severe back pain at the same time. This was the most horrible experience I ever got through.

I have terrible migraines and hurt all over 24/7. My previous neurologist referred to me Mayo to see Dr. Fox and this changed the course of my life. My neck and back had been hurting badly for years but I just blew it off as holding too many babies haha. I gave them all of my images and then they took more at their facilities also.

Dr Fox showed my images and whoa… a couple hernias, stenosis of the cervical spine as well as a torn ligament that I had no idea about. I just thought it was because I’m literally in pain all the time that this was somehow “my” normal. He had prepped before my appointment and already looked at my scans and had a treatment plan. I had surgery very quickly and would trust Dr Fox again and again if I needed to (hopefully I don’t!). Great bedside manner, truly cares about his patients and the whole Mayo experience has been very streamlined. A well oiled machine, they are! I’m 6 months out from surgery and still feeling great when it comes to pain. Nothing like before and I’m so thankful!

Dr Fox, Nurse Lauren and team were absolutely amazing throughout my journey with them. I would recommend Dr Fox to anyone searching for a good doc.

I came here because they are supposed to be great at neurosurgery, but my experience was far from that. In 2019, I had a carotid stent placed that was found to be malfunctioning, and causing me to have TIAs almost daily after a new dissection within the stent. I went to the mayo clinic after a visit to a local er transferred me. The neuro team was great at first and assured me they could take care of my issues and they were just waiting for neurosurgery to round and make a decision. I spent a few days in the neuro ward without much direction. Dr. Lin was pushing for a cerebral angiogram, but neurosurgery kept pushing me away. The residents would be disingenuous and spend maybe two minutes at the bedside before dismissing me again for another 24 hours.

Eventually they convinced Dr. Tawk to do the angiogram. The plan was to do an angiogram and have a anesthesiologist present in case an intervention was to be performed. The day of, I was in the OR prep room and Dr. Tawk came in and yelled at the nurse that if the patient (myself) wasn't in the OR in ten minutes he was canceling the procedure. From some remarks made by the staff, this is a common occurrence. Then, on my way into the OR, Dr. Tawk dismissed the anesthesiologist outside of the OR, saying we won't need you, already deciding on no intervention prior to the angiogram. He had his resident do the angiogram on me, after neuro spent days telling me how complex the case was and how careful they had to be. They found my stent to be faulty, but told me it was "liveable," despite having multiple ER trips and TIAS within the prior three months.

Dr. Huynh rounded me on as well, explaining that the stent that was used was faulty, not a good stent system, and he didn't know why the previous provider did what he did to me. He said that any intervention was too risky and kept referring me to other physicians and outpatient. I asked direcrly when he would intervene, and he said "when you have a stroke," then quickly corrected himself.

Dr. Lin's tone also changed after day five, and I was discharged to outpatient for a round of tests that would never be scheduled and follow ups that never happened, despite my efforts.

I had a stroke a couple months later, after suffering through something "liveable" and being dismissed as being "hyper vigilant" because I was a healthcare worker.

The mayo cllinic workers were kind, many said things had changed, and had recommendations to seek care elsewhere, which I eventually did and took one of the workers recommendations. Their recommendation helped me more than the doctors at mayo, as I eventually had complex surgery to bypass the vessel and am now recovering well.

Let it be a lesson, a name is only a name- and this "mayo" facility is not worthy of that name.

I've been treated poorly by some of the staff and when you try to report that you've been treated poorly, nothing happens and there's a sense of gatekeeping that occurs with your care. I'm scared to report anything else for fear of additional retaliation.
