I had the privilege of being under the care of Dr. Jake and April, throughout my entire pregnancy, and I couldn't have asked for a more supportive and compassionate experience. From the very first visit, they made me feel truly cared for, never rushing through appointments, always taking the time to answer every question, and reassuring me whenever I had concerns. They prioritize a mother’s choices, making it clear that each decision is supported and respected.

Dr. Jake offers evening and weekend appointments, which allowed my husband to be present, and they always welcomed our toddler into the office—he absolutely loves being there. Being able to directly text or call me back is such a gift; I never had to worry about going through a receptionist or waiting for a response when I was worried about something.

When it came to the birth itself, there’s truly no one else I would have wanted by my side in addition to my husband. April held me up when I felt faint for a moment and was reassuring me that I could do it, even on the phone before they arrived when I was laboring. April and Dr. Jake work so perfectly together. It’s so sweet to see them as a team, both as midwife and doula and as husband and wife. Their care is so personal; you never question if they’re invested in you, your health, and your baby.

Beyond routine appointments, Dr. Jake went above and beyond, helping me manage low iron and gestational diabetes and even visiting me at home when I was unwell in the first trimester. The depth of care they provide is unmatched. I’m genuinely excited to continue my care with them even beyond the postpartum period.

If you're looking for a compassionate, professional, and truly personal birthing experience, I can’t recommend Jake and April enough. They will always have a special place in our lives!

Not to mention they’re super funny and make you feel at ease and comfortable no matter how worried you might be.

Let me say this, Dr. Jake and his wife April are so welcoming, my nerves were shot but within 1 minute of being in their cute clinic, I felt so much peace! I can tell they care so much about their patients and all the babies they welcome. They let my big bunch of family come and conversation was also great. Very down to earth. I wouldn’t have wanted to see my baby for the first time with anyone else. ? thanks again!!! Also, they offer gender reveal early, I will know what the gender is in 2 days and I’m 7 weeks along ?

So, maybe you're one of those moms like me who is not by any stretch of the imagination "crunchy," earthy, birthy, and in tune with your inner feminine goddess but nor are you thrilled to give birth at a hospital for your own reasons, and maybe you want an experience that offers as little or as much medical intervention as you choose for your birth, and, if so, Coastal Midwifery & Women's Health is for YOU.
I feel like home birth appeals to a huge part of me but often has so many limitations of what can and can't be done by lay midwives, and I get it, but I have so much anxiety about the what-ifs and it was so refreshing to have my entire pregnancy & birth (and, let's be honest, I'm switching to Jake as my main provider now that my birth is done) with medical options available to me as a hybrid experience between clinical & medical-forward care as well as home-centered birthing autonomy for a totally me-driven bespoke prenatal experience.
I was able to be prescribed medications due to the legitimacy of Dr. Jake's credentials, while also having my decision to decline certain interventions completely accepted with gusto. CMWH has top-of-the-line equipment that allowed me the reassuring ultrasounds I wanted as often as I wanted them and lots of new tech that allowed my kids to see & celebrate their growing sibling, while on the other hand, Jake often spoke kindly and with total respect of other client mindsets of zero peeks at their baby throughout pregnancy. I was offered a huge variety of potential choices and because my encompassing anxious personality meant that decisions were often made with my head & heart in conflict, at every stage Dr. Jake and April gave me endless options a "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure!" pregnancy where whatever decisions were best for ME were celebrated by everyone at the practice.

If you have kids, THERE IS A KID ROOM. I'm pretty sure there are levels of kid rooms based on age & maturity level (blocks in one, xbox in another?!). I can't understate the immense blessing it was for my kids to be so welcomed, encouraged to be themselves, and allowed free reign of the various hospitality spaces. They loved going to appointments and I loved knowing that they would be so well-cared-for and would have so much fun. (Pictured: once when I was 8.5 months pregnant and my child had a meltdown because she didn't want to leave, so Dr. Jake got down on the floor with her to cheerlead & encourage her!)If you've ever been pregnant and have been herded in and out of appointments with barely a nod, this environment is completely different. Jake & April spent HOURS talking with us about life, our concerns and hopes, and truly made us feel like friends all of the way throughout pregnancy. (If I didn't work full-time, I'd also love to participate in their regular get-togethers for moms, with encouragements etc.)

My labor was a doozy. My body gave me so many little fun-tivities and detours that I didn't plan for and wasn't super thrilled about. But Dr. Jake helped us privot at every step, choosing what best aligned with our hopes and in the end I had the most gorgeous, outrageously and shamelessly loud, raw and completely powerful birth. April and Jake were both there with me to meet me where I was at, offer encouragement, help my husband to help me best, and empower my natural birth that was made soooo much easier knowing that they also had so much medical equipment and backup plans and resources available to them IF anything had happened to go south. Knowing that made me able to focus more fully and be present.

Jake and April are incredibly welcoming and supportive. I fully recommend them to anyone considering homebirth. My first pregnancy and birth experience was traumatic. As a result I have been diagnosed with PTSD, doctors and hospitals are a trigger for me. When I found out I was pregnant the joy of expecting a child was immediately dampened by fear of doctors visits and giving birth in a hospital. I will forever be grateful for Jake and April they turned that fear back into joy. Thanks to their support this pregnancy and birth was a beautiful, empowering and incredibly healing experience.

I have never felt more at peace leaving a doctors office then i did here. I feel able to open up about my mental health and let my guard down and relax. This was the most amazing experience i have ever had at a doctors office. I was literally in tears with joy. 10 out of 10 would recommend! I honestly cant wait for my next doctors appointment i never thought id ever say that! I felt comfortable and even was able to breastfeed in peace and relax all while making sure my medical needs were met. I feel so happy because of this place!

We love Jake and April! I’ve always had major anxiety with anything healthcare, but all of that was totally eased. Jake always takes the time to listen to any questions or concerns you may have and you will never feel brushed off or judged.
I also loved how much they checked up on me after I had my baby. It isn’t the typical, “you had a baby, see you in two months!” deal. They checked in on us multiple times in the weeks after my girl was born. I struggled a lot with postpartum anxiety, and April is still checking up on me six months later. Speaking of April, she is the absolute best support person ever when you’re in labor! She kept me hydrated and encouraged when I was struggling the most during labor. After birth she grabbed us food, helped me shower and get dressed and then tucked us in for some much needed rest.
This was my longest pregnancy and biggest baby but I wasn’t rushed or made to fear her size. I will forever be thankful that I was able to have my baby at home with no unnecessary interventions or complications.

Dr. Jake was referred to me by the HG Foundation. He came to my home to administer fluids, going above and beyond to make the process of getting an iv easy and thus making this HG pregnancy so much easier to cope with. Anyone who has had hg knows it can be hard for even the best professionals to ping a vein when you’re so dehydrated. Dr. Jake took the time to make sure to consider this and used smaller needles, numbed my skin prior to starting the iv.
His knowledge and expertise coupled with his gentle compassion was just what I needed and made all the difference in such a rough time for me.
Once the clinic opened, it has been awesome to bring along all my babies and have them welcomed (with an awesome playroom). April and Dr. Jake where phenomenal during my homebirth.. I felt so loved and well cared for. From the warm blankets, encouragement, thoughtfulness to get pictures..and everything after and in between.
This was my first home birth and first birth without an epidural…. It was such an amazing experience that I hoped to have with my first birth that these guys gifted me with. I am so very thankful to know these guys and to have had the incredible gift of them caring for me during my 5th pregnancy and birth.

Dr. Jake & his wife April are incredible!! We chose to have them for our first Home birth!
After 3 medicated hospital deliveries that left us surrounded in uncertainty & fear, we decided to look for a different option and was lead to the best, most intentional birth team we could have ever dreamed of! When I first thought of the concept of midwifery, I had no idea how much of it was relationship building for me and my family! Each appointment was very intentional. With everything Dr. Jake does, it comes from his skilled experience that is grounded in professional knowledge and wisdom in this field. The difference is, you can tell that behind every conversation it’s rooted in his passion to bring a better experience for each of his patients. By the time of delivery and postpartum care our family fully trusted him and his wife knowing they were for me and my family. They supported the decisions and desires we had surrounding the birth of our daughter, that I had never received from my 3 other hospital births. Being under their care was a huge restoring experience for us! This is what OB care should be like. Where you are valued and respected as a person with opinions about the care you want, not just a name on a chart!
