Overall, I consider myself a healthy person, and I have had positive experiences with most specialists I've seen. However, my experience with Dr. Amanda Allen and the staff at Orthopedics of Miami Lakes has been very disappointing. I have been experiencing ankle pain since May 2024, which has made walking difficult. In June 2024, I decided to seek help from Dr. Allen at Orthopedics of Miami Lakes.
During my first visit, Dr. Allen suggested stretching exercises, physical therapy, Voltaren gel, patches, and steroids to alleviate my pain and discomfort. After three weeks, the pain worsened, and I called Dr. Allen’s office. On my second visit, she ordered an MRI and prescribed muscle relaxers. Three weeks later, with the MRI results in hand, I returned for a third appointment. The MRI revealed tendon swelling, tendinitis, two Achilles tendon tears, fluid collection in the retrocalcaneal bursa, a heel spur, and mild bone edema. Despite the worsening pain, Dr. Allen recommended wearing an orthopedic boot for five weeks and using red light therapy. I requested pain medication, but Dr. Allen insisted that the boot would help.
A week later, the pain became unbearable, making walking extremely difficult and causing me to wake up in the middle of the night. I called Dr. Allen’s office to explain my situation and was informed that she was on vacation but would be contacted. I received a call back instructing me to use a scooter and that Tramadol would be prescribed. Three hours later, I called the pharmacy, but no prescription had been sent. I called Dr. Allen’s office again, and a rude staff member informed me that Dr. Allen was not to be disturbed on her vacation and that I should go to the emergency room, then hung up on me.
After almost three months of appointments, being told to go to the ER felt unacceptable. The lack of empathy, professionalism, and ethics displayed by Dr. Allen and her staff is alarming. They should not be considered health care providers. I went to the ER, where a doctor reviewed my MRI, gave me a pain injection, and prescribed pain medication. They also assisted me in finding an orthopedic doctor to address my injury.
