We were visiting our son who attends PSU and after a few hours of shopping we decided to grab a bite. We had eaten the night before at the Tavern, excellent meal but wanted some pizza and maybe a beer. We asked a few shop owners and got a couple of different responses but in searching Google, Doggie's Pub was well reviewed and only a few blocks away. We could not have picked any better. This place was exactly what we were looking for. The pub is actually below grade (fka the Rathskeller). You are greeted at the door and have to produce ID. If you're not 21 or with an adult don't bother, you can't get in. There is no table service but if you're here that doesn't matter. The vibe is awesome, the employees were great, friendly and helpful and the pizza...really good pie! It's a thin crust the way I like it. The bar is of course a full bar. It was the first Saturday afternoon of spring break so the pub was relatively quiet. We were able to sit at a booth and enjoy all the "carvings" in the table and writing on the walls. There is of course multiple photos of doggies hanging up! I'm sure this place is a lot of fun during the school year. If you're in town and want a really good pizza and a beer, this is the place!

Great pub! Staff and vibe is the best. The band called My Hero Zero is horrible, set list was okay but horrible signing. They played multiple days over the weekend and I left, simply wasn’t worth the cover and cost of drinks

About two years ago, I went to this pub with some friends. The night was completely uneventful—no issues, no drama. Yet a week later, when I returned, I was suddenly denied entry for allegedly displaying “inappropriate behavior”—an accusation that mysteriously surfaced after the fact.

It wasn’t hard to guess the real reason: likely a few acquaintances of one of the managers, who simply didn’t like my presence, stirred up drama. I spoke with the manager, explained my side, and was told the matter would be reviewed—and that, at worst, the ban would be lifted within a month.

I’m not someone who goes to bars often. In fact, I haven’t returned to that place in two years and have only occasionally visited other pubs during that time. But when a friend recently suggested meeting there, I figured enough time had passed and gave it another shot. Once again, I was turned away—this time by a security guard who could barely remember what the original incident was even about.

I’ll be in this town for just about one more year to complete my doctorate, but I’ve decided never to set foot in that place again. The irony? People who’ve likely seen—and tolerated—far worse behavior are treating me like the problem. And the ones making that call? Let’s just say they don’t exactly measure up in terms of education, professionalism, or even a clean record. Google us.

Great college bar. Always crowded. My daughter's favorite Penn State bar. Pizza place attached & accessible from inside.
Recommend "Bucket of LaBatt's" 5 bottles in a bucket for $12.75. Also, acceptable pints of Guinness. Bartenders are professional, well trained & fast.

Thinks their brand is superior and never lets anyone in because they want to hold the title of ‘best,’ most irresistible bar in town. You could sit in the line for 2+ hours with a half full bar and never get anywhere. Hope this helps.

Very slow evening, waited 20 minutes multiple times for a beer. This probably isn't the norm as I've noticed more staff showing up to work, but I can only report on what I'm experiencing currently.

Great, crowded atmosphere but also a lot of space. Came here before the white out game from Denver. Probably the best prices in town for different drinks and slices of pizza. They did charge 50¢ for crushed red pepper. Loved the bags/cornhole outside! The pizza order took much longer than necessary. The line was very long.

I would reccomend avoiding this bar. very cramped place. Kinda going for the dive bar look on the inside but the outside was nice at least. Bartender and the guy checking ID's were very nice but I was thrown out by security for being visibly intoxicated when I had just finished my first drink. Unsure if they mistook me for someone else or if they were just trying to keep the "ratio" right. Claimed they watched me stumble outside about an hour before and that I was leaning on the wall. There where no seats available and my group where all by the wall so I guess I was intended to stand in the middle of walkway and block people. I was told i could not finish the drink i had just bought but there was no point in fighting him on it. In addition i was told that he was very rude to my group when they questioned him on it. Unfortunately that cost them the business of about 13 people but im sure thats a drop in the bucket with how crowded the place was. Ive worked in bar security so im wary of people claiming that they where thrown out for no reason but thats what happened in my case and it seems to be a common complaint looking through the 1 star reviews. If your looking to throw your money away for some alcohol I would say there are better places to do it than here.

A few friends and I went to Doggie's Pub last night (Thursday into Friday) around 1:10 AM. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks, spending about $75 in total. A brunette bartender was incredibly rude and lackluster. She openly rolled her eyes at us, spoke to us in a snippy tone, and seemed annoyed by our presence. When we ordered two “double Jack and Cokes”, she questioned if we meant four shots total, then scoffed and said she couldn't serve that much
alcohol legally. After clarifying that we wanted two separate drinks, she continued to be rude and dismissive. When she brought our drinks, she didn't say a word, and we weren't even sure if they were what we ordered. Overall, it was a terrible experience, and we definitely won't be returning.
