Dr. Payne is amazing!! If you have foot pain and want a great doctor you must go to to Dr. Payne. Don’t be like me and find that doctor # 9 is the right doctor. You can pick him first. Gave myself a bunion while cycling in 2014 and have been to many podiatrists from the West Coast to the East Coast. 2 CA podiatrists wanted to operate right away. The third podiatrist taught at the College of Podiatry. He said it didn’t need to be operated on until it got to a certain degree of severity and at that time I wasn’t at that point. In my travels I went to 3 more Podiatrists/Orthopedic surgeons in NY. The doctor I was most impressed with said that surgery would be unavoidable eventually. When my bunion got to the point of needing to buy 2 different size shoes and more limited walking range I decided it was time for surgery in 2020. Did lots of researching on all the doctors and ended up picking a surgeon in Atlanta, GA. After the surgery I asked him if I needed new orthotics. He said that I wouldn’t need them at all. Asked if I needed my toe spacer. He said no. Thought that didn’t really sound right but wanted to believe him. When I was giving myself a bunion my foot hurt. Assumed because I wasn’t 30. Couldn’t walk more than 5 miles. After bunion surgery my foot hurt. Hurts with atmospheric pressure changes, humidity and Fortunately never really excruciating pain and I had been tolerating that pain for years. One day I got my tennis shoes all wet and grabbed my flip flops instead. To my surprise my surgery foot was swollen, black and blue and my 2nd toe was crossing over my big toe and did hurt and I could barely get my flip flop on. Took a good month to 6 weeks to recover. Went to my local South Carolina podiatrist and was referred to Trevor Payne. He asked me to explain whatever pain I was having. There were specifically 2 areas of pain and it felt like the outside of my foot was on a downward incline. Dr. Payne instantly pointed out the problem areas and how he could correct it with orthotics. He did this in less than 5 minutes. It was amazing because none of the the other podiatrists thought I needed anything after surgery, even though after surgery I did not having matching foot structure. All my years of horses and farriers told me otherwise. Made no sense to me. Dr Payne also told me that one leg was shorter than the other. Have had chiropractors tell me that but none of the podiatrists or orthopedic surgeons mentioned it. It was one more simple correction to make. In summary Dr Payne has an amazing talent for looking at the structure of your foot and being instantly clear on the problem and the correction. Told Dr. Payne that he reminded me of the really talented farriers who can fix your horses lameness issues with some little tweaks to their shoes and make them sound again. Of course they are way more expensive than the farrier who has been shoeing your horse for years and your horses movement just isn’t quite right and isn’t pain free. Don’t wait for Dr. #9. Go to doctor #1 who will tell you clearly, concisely the problem and the solution. Oh, just one more thing. I asked him what kind of tennis shoes I would need. He sent me to a running store not far from his office. Told me the brand name and all the specifics. Store did not have my size in the store or anything to try on. Felt a little like I was flying blind but I trust Dr. Payne. The shoes arrived the next day. Put in my new orthotics and they were perfect!!
