I went to see Dr. Leila Chaychi as I moved to the area recently. She was straight to the point and let me know that my past endo was undertreating my thyroid issues by prescribing such a low dose. She also ordered an ultrasound to verify thyroid damage and gave me the new medication I needed right on the spot rather than having to go to a pharmacy. She also gave input on lifestyle and reviewed prior labs which I showed her on my phone.

I had to wait almost an hour to see her but she proactively apologized as soon as she walked in which I really appreciate and shows respect for patient time.

For context, I have a rare metabolic condition (HPP) that few endocrinologists have experience with. Dr. Chaychi, to my knowledge, is one of the few that does in the Bay Area.

1. Dr Chaychi did not offer much insight or advice regarding my illness. She gave mostly curt responses and generally gave off the impression she wanted me out the door. Our appointments did not last much longer than 5-10 minutes.

2. Apparently Dr. Chaychi is not covered under my insurance. I was informed of this after our third appointment in an email saying I owed $1275 with no information included. Thankfully billing sorted things out, but it’s ridiculous I wasn’t informed of this before our first visit, not after the third.

If you know exactly what you want from your endo, Dr. Chaychi might work for you but as someone who feels like they’re searching in the dark regarding their illness, she did not illuminate much.

Also I highly doubt most of the reviews written for this office are made by real people.

Dr. Chaychi is the best endocrinologist I have ever had. I have dealt with my thyroid issue in the past 30 years, and seen every single endocrinologist in the Bay Area. Dr. Chaychi is the best by far. I have been her patient for the past 10 years and am very grateful for the treatment. She is very knowledgeable, caring, professional, intelligent, friendly and patient. She responds to inquiries via email promptly and 7 days a week. I have discussed my other health issues with her, besides thyroid, and she always has had the best suggestions/referrals. I have referred my family and friends to her, and they are very happy with her care as well. I highly recommend Dr. Chaychi.

I had come here to get a better understanding of my hormones and my body. First of all, she was 30 minutes late to my appointment that I came on time for. Then, she rushed through our appointment. She quickly went over my blood panel, barely explaining anything. She did not go into detail on why I was deficient in something and what I can do about it. She quickly confirmed I don't have PCOS, when there are more factors to it, which makes me think she didn't really properly give my needs care. She quickly checked my thyroid, not explaining anything she was doing and gave me a vague answer about what the state of my thyroid was and said I need a biopsy to be sure. That was so confusing and unnecessary. Everything was so rushed and I left with even more questions then I came in.

TLDR: If you're looking for a hormone wellness check/pcos check, DO NOT COME HERE.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Chaychi for over ten years now. She’s always been incredibly caring, quick to respond, and pays close attention to details. Her knowledge goes way beyond what you’d expect in her field. I truly appreciate her time and dedication, especially during urgent situations when I’m running low on my thyroid medications. Both she and her staff are consistently available to send my prescription to the pharmacy. I highly recommend her. Thank you Dr. Chaychi, and team!

Dr. Chaychi could be the best doctor in the world but the administration challenges have made her impossible to work with and for me to trust her with my health.

Pros:

(1) Quick appointment availability. You can book her typically within 1-2 weeks vs. the 1-3 month wait with other endocrinologists in the bay.
(2) Her office gave you a visit summary detailing diagnosis made and next-step to do, which I find helpful.

Cons:

(1) The office shows NO respect for patients' time (e.g. significant wait times & cancelled appointment with no explanation). Across three visits, I experienced a 20-minute wait on the first visit, one-hour waits on the subsequent in-person visits, and an hour on a virtual visit where she eventually didn't show up. I also receive no explanation & follow-ups on the third appointment.
(2) Limited Patient Care time: While Dr. Chaychi provides adequate diagnoses and will answer questions during the visit, the brevity of the sessions (5 to 7 minutes) leaves me feeling rushed and unsure about some medical concepts. I don't think all of my lab results were explained to me clearly (e.g. she has ordered comprehensive metabolism panels test which is super expensive and we had literally never talked about). It's challenging to assess whether she is efficient or simply aiming to move through patients quickly.
(3) Office Support Challenges: Over two months of visits, my pharmacy and lab have not yet received any prescriptions from her practice. I had to rely on prescription medication from my previous PCP and lab order printouts provided during office visits. How difficult is it to get those details right?
