I went to Muse Plastic Surgery for abdominal liposuction, my experience was filled with one issue after another from the very start.
When I called to schedule the consultation I was told the next appointment was in two months and the consultation fee was $200, which needed to be paid upfront. When I gave my card info, they charged me twice, totaling $400. It took a week to get the extra charge refunded, which was super inconvenient, but mistakes happen.
When I booked the consultation, I was never provided an address, so I assumed it was the one they had listed on Google. But when I arrived, I found out that they moved. When I called them, they apologized for not giving me the updated address, but stated I would need to reschedule to another day. Since I’d taken PTO for this, I insisted they fit me in that day, and they reluctantly agreed.
During the consultation, the doctor and patient coordinator suggested doing the procedure in-office under local anesthesia. They said it was safer and more cost effective and I agreed. I didn't understand that this would later cause me a world of pain. So I happily scheduled the appointment and paid the full $10,000 upfront. They promised to send me an email with info on fajas I’d need, lymphatic massage therapists in my area, and prescriptions for meds. None of that happened.
The morning before surgery, I still hadn’t received the prescriptions, so I called the office. By 4pm they still hadn’t been sent, so I called again. They didn’t send them until 5pm, and by then it was too late to pick them up before the pharmacy closed. I had to scramble to get them the next morning, just hours before the procedure.
By the day of surgery, I was having serious reservations about letting them operate on me considering everything that had happened. The poor handling of every other part of the process had me questioning whether I could trust them to do this safely, but the procedure was already paid in full and I was trying to remain optimistic.
The procedure itself was the worst part. It was completely traumatizing. I don’t know if the doctor didn’t give the numbing agent enough time to work or if it just didn’t work for me, but I felt everything. For the entire 90 minutes, I was in excruciating pain. Despite doubling the numbing agent, nothing helped. I was supposed to have laughing gas, but was told the machine wasn’t working. Eventually, they let me use what was left over from another patient, but I had to hold the mask myself in an uncomfortable position, and it didn’t do much for the pain. At one point, I remember laying there crying, having no control over what was happening and just trying to get through. If I knew how intense the procedure would be, I would’ve gladly paid for full anesthesia to avoid being awake through it. The doctor never mentioned this during the consultation.
The doctor ended up taking more fat than we discussed and performed lipo 360, taking fat from my back and waist as well. I appreciated that, but there’s no way I should’ve been awake for this procedure.
Afterward, as soon as I stood up from the operating table, I started bleeding excessively and had to be re-bandaged. I was in so much pain that they couldn’t get me into a properly fitting compression garment. I ended up with one that was too big and didn’t provide the compression I needed for healing.
It’s been 12 weeks and while I still have a lot of swelling and inflammation, I’m optimistic about the final results. However, the entire process was frustrating, stressful, and honestly, traumatic. I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone and will not be back.
I’m not sure why my experience was so different from others who left positive reviews, but I wanted to share my experience to help others make a more informed decision. Muse Plastic Surgery needs a serious overhaul in their organization, communication, and patient care.
