I cannot put into words how much this place helped me turn my life around. Between the comfortable atmosphere, the caring staff who talked with me even at 4am (Thank You Maddy!), the groups, activities, speakers, you'd be hard pressed to find a better place than this in CT. A little over a year ago, I decided to seek help. I made countless phone calls to treatment centers all across New England. Paramount was one of the first places that I considered going to, and each person I spoke to was exceptionally helpful, considerate, and genuine. Eventually, I ended up deciding to be admitted to a different treatment center. Despite this, Paramount continued to follow up with me, calling to ask how I’m doing and to see if I needed any help. That really stood out to me. It makes a big difference when I feel like I’m being treated and talked to like a person rather than just a patient, and sometimes that can be hard to come by.

I recently found myself in a place where I needed to get professional medical help to detox safely. Tremors. Sweats. Heart palpitations. Debilitating hopelessness. Mind-numbing anxiety. All the fun stuff. Luckily, I stumbled upon Paramount.

As soon as I arrived, I was welcomed by the most attentive and caring staff. Everyone who works here, from the counselors to nurses to doctors to aides, wanted to help in every way possible. Instead of feeling like a bed number, I felt like a human being who mattered.

The food was delicious. The accommodations were hotel-esque. And the atmosphere was loving, happy, and hopeful.

This was not my first rehab rodeo, but after this powerful experience at Paramount, I have a great foundation to make it my last.

I would highly recommend Paramount to anyone struggling with addiction. I have, unfortunately, been in multiple rehabs before this, and did not have good experiences at those places. My experience at Paramount several weeks ago was quite different. The staff was very compassionate and non-judgmental, although not all of them are "in recovery" themselves; I have been at rehabs that boast that all staff members are in recovery, and still the attitude was generally hostile and punishing toward the clients. Paramount staff was mostly concerned to help the clients with recovery, and their attitude was encouraging and accepting.

The small community of residents was also helpful. There were only about twelve people in the residential section when I was there, so we got to know one another well and were able to support one another. There is also less focus on 12-Step recovery than is usual at most rehabs--although I do the AA thing myself, it is not for everyone, and Paramount staff does not insist that you can't stay sober if you don't do AA or NA.

Therapy sessions were helpful, and the group activities were varied--some groups will work for you, others won't, but we're all a bit different. Of course, everyone complains about detox--detoxing from anything is always unpleasant and sometimes dangerous; I found the nursing staff very helpful, and my own experience of detoxing from alcohol was made as painless as it could be.

My only criticism is that I, personally, could do without all the televisions! The constant noise of the television can be a distraction to focusing on recovery--maybe a television free room at some point?

I hope Paramount continues to grow (maybe not too much), and I would definitely recommend it.
