We love Dr. Chum - she is very good at what she does and super sweet with mom. Dr. Tran is hilarious. Ericka is very skilled. This us a great practice and shop and we are glad they are nearby.

I saw Dr. Chum for a RF treatment around my eyes and an Age Jet treatment for a stubborn wrinkle on my forehead to prepare for my upcoming wedding. Dr. Chum was kind and courteous, she took the time to consult with me prior to my appointment and gave recommendations on what she felt would be the best course of action based on my desires and her thoughts on which treatment would work best for me. Throughout the procedure Dr. Chum was kind and bubbly and made me feel at ease. The treatments were very exactly as she described and more relaxing than I had anticipated. I would not hesitate to see Dr. Chum again for more treatments.

I went here for Ortho-K, but after weeks of trial, decided it just wasn't working for me. They helped with the insurance process to void the contacts purchase and help me pick out some glasses. It was such a smooth process compared to the previous places I've been where I had to be aware of what my insurance allowed and specifically ask to get all my benefits.

When picking out pairs of glasses, the lady was so patient and accommodating. She didn't give off the exasperated feeling when I tried on more than a few pairs of frames. She honestly gave her opinion when asked unlike others who just say everything looks nice. My biggest focus was comfort and she didn't mind adjusting multiple pairs of frames to my shape to allow me to make the best decision. She really took away the anxiety of being sat down in front of a person and told to shop.

Perhaps I've just been going to awful places previously, but I really appreciated the openness and helpfulness of all the staff at San Carlos Eye Care.

I was sent to Dr. Tran from the emergency department at a nearby hospital because I had a partially paralyzed eye and extreme headache pain. Dr. Tran was dismissive and condescending on perhaps the worst day of my life during a health crisis. His explanation for my eye was that I had been drinking too much (wasn't a factor -- not that he asked me). It turns out I had a nerve palsy paralyzing my eye as a result of a brain bleed, and he treated me like I was there due to some fault of my own. While I was in the alley behind his practice crying and trying to find a doctor who could help me and transportation, he came out with a friend to show off his new fancy road bike (and completely ignored me there). Maybe he's fine for basic eye exams, but don't trust this man with anything serious. He appears to be more concerned with making a lot of money and buying fancy things. When I saw a competent optometrist (several days later), she was able to figure out quickly from her exam what I needed and got me to the right specialist to help me.

This was in January 2020, and now this office has started sending me happy birthday messages. Thanks for the reminder of the worst health care experience of my life.

San Carlos Eye Care are the only people I trust with my precious vision. They’ve been my eye care place for over a decade and I’d only ever go to another eye doctor with their referral & blessing. I knew Dr Tran long before I started seeing him & Dr Chum as my optometrist & ophthalmologist. I use to wake up Dr Tran at 2am for emergency cases at Peninsula hospital in Burlingame. Dr Tran was our on-call Ophthalmologist for many years at Mills Peninisula Hospitals. He covered Mills in San Mateo as well as Peninsula in Burlingame. Seeing how well he cared for all those patients, I eventually chose to use his practice as my need for an ophthalmologist became more evident. The reason why I admire & respect Dr Tran is because when he knew how severe my need was for eye surgery he didn’t pretend to be the best person to perform it; he referred me to someone he knew could do the type of surgery I needed better.

Dr Chum worked on my contacts prescription for more than 5 years while my vision changed after every surgery I had and as I got older. To say I was her most challenging is an understatement hahaha and she’d agree yet she remained patient and persistent to get the exact prescription I needed to not only function at work (I’m on the computer 8-12 hrs a day) but also to tend to life chores, tasks & duties like driving a car, going to the gym, doing laundry or cooking dinner for my family.

Our vision isn’t something we think about 24/7 but when we have dedicated doctors like Dr Tran & Chum at the San Carlos Eye Care that DO think about “eyes” 24/7, life is better knowing they’re going to always support you & your ?️ eyes ?️

Dr. Chum is such a delight to work with. I had some general ageing concerns with my face (enlarged pores, fine lines, dry texture) and came in for an evaluation. She was very thorough and made sure I was an appropriate candidate first. We decided I was and the day of the procedure she was so patient and informative of the process. Agejet itself is about a 3-4/10 pain procedure but she was very gentle and it was very tolerable. Would absolutely recommend Dr. Chum if you are looking into refreshing your face and are considering a procedure like Agejet.
