Extremely Disappointing Experience

Unfortunately, my experience with UPMC Bedford Dermatology was nothing short of awful. I was referred by a friend, but I genuinely don’t understand what they saw in this provider. I had to book my total body skin exam five months in advance, as they claimed that was the earliest available 1-hour slot—and even then, I had to push to be scheduled with Dr. Hocker, since I was told she “usually doesn’t do those.”

I completed all required forms digitally in advance to ensure a smooth check-in. The office is 45 minutes from my home, so I left an hour early to allow plenty of time. Unfortunately, there were multiple construction delays. I called the office five times during the drive to let them know I might be about 10 minutes late. No one answered, so I left voicemails. Someone finally picked up on the fifth call, at which point I was almost there and explained the situation again. I arrived exactly 10 minutes late—not ideal, but certainly understandable under the circumstances.

Despite this, the staff made me wait over two hours to be seen. When the appointment finally began, I was told there wasn’t enough time to complete the full-body skin exam—the entire reason I had booked so far in advance. I fail to understand how being 10 minutes late to a one-hour appointment justifies canceling the exam entirely, especially after making me wait an additional two hours in the waiting room.

This visit was a total waste of time, energy, and trust. I left feeling dismissed and deeply frustrated. I would not recommend this office to anyone looking for helpful, compassionate dermatologic care.

Dr. Hocker is very up to date with new techniques, super nice and caring, she really takes the time to help. The staff is friendly, upbeat and helpful! I highly recommend anyone to go to her!
